On Commonwealth Day, Malaria No More UK held a parliamentary reception on malaria.
Hosted by the Rt Hon. The Baroness Hayman GBE, speakers from Comic Relief, GSK and the APPG on Malaria and Neglected Tropical Diseases, put a spotlight on the forthcoming Malaria Summit in the week of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) this April.
The event at the House of Lords was attended by cross-party parliamentarians, Commonwealth representatives and business and science leaders. The reception was an opportunity for key advocates in the malaria campaign to come together and call on Commonwealth leaders to take bold, political action and renew the fight to end malaria at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting. 90% of Commonwealth citizens live in malaria-endemic countries, therefore Commonwealth action to fight malaria is crucial.
The reception was also an opportunity to showcase our brand new film by Aardman animations. Voiced by Hugh Laurie, viewers are taken on a tour through the history of malaria, by Mozzie! You’ll see exactly why we need leaders to take urgent action.
