Commonwealth Health Ministers Meeting 2019
The 2019 Commonwealth Health Ministers Meeting (CHMM) takes place on the 19 May in Geneva, Switzerland. The event will bring together all 53 health ministers from the Commonwealth to address and improve universal health coverage in their countries.
This year’s meeting will be chaired by Fiji’s Minister for Health and Medical Services Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete, and the theme “Universal Health Coverage: Reaching the unreached, ensuring no one is left behind” aims to highlight the importance of universal health coverage in creating better futures for Commonwealth citizens, particularly for the most vulnerable collectives such as women, children and youth, and people with disabilities.
During the Commonwealth Health Ministers Meeting, Malaria No More UK and Isobar, global digital agency within the Dentsu Aegis Network, will present the brand-new Commonwealth Malaria Tracker to ensure last year's commitments of halving malaria in the Commonwealth by 2023 are met. Using the most up-to-date WHO data, this innovative digital tool will allow the global health community to track the Commonwealth’s progress on halving the world’s oldest and deadliest disease and saving 600,000 lives.
The Commonwealth Health Ministers Meeting will take place just before the 72nd World Health Assembly, the decision-making body of the World Health Organisation, which will also discuss universal health coverage, shortage of medicines and vaccines and climate change effects on health among other global matters.
