Fever-Tree: Renewing and celebrating 10-years of partnership on malaria
This year marks an incredible ten years of our incredible partnership with Fever-Tree, the world’s leading supplier of premium carbonated mixers.
This year they have renewed their funding for the malaria fight with £100,000 towards tackling malaria in Kenya. This money will make it possible for us to provide support to critical community campaigns in three malaria-affected regions of Kenya, aimed at ensuring people are protected from this treatable and preventable disease.
Malaria, one of the world's oldest and deadliest diseases, remains a significant public health problem in Kenya – more than 70% of the population is at constant risk from the disease, with young children and pregnant women the most vulnerable. Fever-Tree’s ongoing backing and support is helping our teams develop communications tools, enabling its partners to seamlessly integrate the resources into existing awareness programmes to positively influence the use of malaria interventions.
Since we started working with Fever-Tree in 2013, they have contributed over £1.75 million to the malaria fight, a cause very closely aligned with the company’s roots. The quinine-producing cinchona tree, or ‘fever tree’, is the primary ingredient in tonic water, and has been used for centuries to prevent the disease.
Many of the communities where Fever-Tree sources its world-class mixer ingredients also experience the devastating effects of malaria, for example, quinine from the Democratic Republic of Congo-Rwandan border, ginger from Nigeria and India, and Kenyan coffee beans.
Fever-Tree’s backing of the malaria fight forms an important part of their commitment to producing high-quality products in ever more sustainable ways, linking the communities where its ingredients are sourced to the Fever-Tree colleagues and customers who have shown extraordinary support over the past 10 years, contributing to the goal of ending malaria within a generation – a global health milestone that could save millions of lives.
By working together we have helped reach millions of consumers through events, on-pack promotions, advertising space and an award-winning social media campaign “Raise A Glass”, all sharing the vital message that we can and must end one of the world’s most ancient and deadliest diseases.
Fever-Tree's passionate employees have joined the fight against malaria, running marathons and participating in virtual challenges. Recently, Tad Mather, Area Manager of Africa, Middle East and Latin America, pushed the limits of endurance by taking part in the world's toughest footrace, the Marathon Des Sables, to raise awareness and funds for malaria eradication.
Looking to the future, emerging biological threats, climate change disruption, and a widening funding gap are threatening to reverse recent progress against malaria, but new innovations, including vaccines, next-generation bed nets and new drugs designed to stand up to future threats and challenges, have the potential to turn the tide on malaria.
The future is bright but also requires continued and united support, as well as new partners to ensure these new tools reach the children who need them most.
