Markus Lupfer designed the limited edition cocktail dress using a black netting overlay to highlight the need for mosquito nets, a vital tool to stop the spread of malaria in Africa. 750 dresses are on sale on ASOS now for just £55 each with all proceeds to Malaria No More UK. Buy your dress here!
Markus Lupfer says: “I was inspired by Malaria No More UK’s mission and the simplicity of the project. We no longer have malaria here in Europe but in Africa the disease claims 2,000 lives every day and nets are a simple means to helping stop this. As a fabric, netting is strong and surprisingly versatile and I am pleased to see the net finish works on this piece, a somewhat experimental take on a little black dress!”.
Namibian model Behati Prinsloo is supporting the collaboration and all profits from the sale of dress will help buy nets and save lives in Behati’s home country Namibia, southern Africa, where two thirds of the population are at risk from malaria.
Behati was photographed by Hugh Lippe in the ready-to-wear party piece.
The dress is fitted to the knee in midnight blue jersey underlay and topped with elegant black tulle netting that forms an oversized shoulder bow. A perfect summer party piece and great conversation starter!
I grew up in Namibia and have seen the affects of malaria firsthand, it’s a part of everyday life there. A lot of my friends caught the disease and thankfully they survived. I did see many others die from malaria though and it is all the more heartbreaking because it is totally preventable. Simple measures like bed nets really do save lives. It’s a privilege for me to get involved with this project and I have to say, I’m a big fan of Markus’s artful and innovative approach so it’s a dream collaboration!
