Rev Rosemarie Mallett’s Real Life Story

I lived in Tanzania for four years where catching malaria is tragically a part of everyday life. I had it at least six times and know firsthand how it can tear families and communities apart. I also know that malaria is preventable, no one need suffer. I use my own experiences to inform many in my local London community, who travel to and from Africa and need to take easy but essential precautions to stay protected.

I also know that malaria is preventable, no one need suffer

Now back in London, she raises funds and awareness to help save lives. In May 2011, she took up the challenge to Live Below the Line, and was sponsored to live on on £1 a day for all food and drink for five days. She encouraged others in her local community to get involved and even secured the backing of the local primary school! Today, she continues to spread the word to fight malaria. Many in her local community travel back to Africa to visit family and friends and by sharing her own experiences on malaria, Rosemarie helps make sure they know about the importance of getting protected before before travel.

As people of faith we have this desire to do good in the world around us and as a Christian, I feel that it is a duty to ensure that I care for my neighbour and to extend that compassion to those living in difficult situations and in poverty all around the world.
