Statement On News Cheryl Cole Has Contracted Malaria
4 CommentsWe have been contacted by news agencies in response to the sad news that Cheryl Cole (nee Tweedy) has apparently contracted malaria while travelling in Tanzania. We are really sorry to hear Ms Cole is unwell and wish her a very speedy recovery.

Malaria is a disease that is preventable and treatable. Approximately 2000 British travellers contract malaria each year. To protect yourself when travelling we recommend taking an anti-malarial, using a bed net and insecticide spray. If you develop flu like symptoms once you return home, (particularly in the first three months, but up to a year later), seek medical advice immediately. For more information for those travelling overseas see www.malariahotspots.co.uk
Malaria No More UK exists to help stop the suffering and death caused by malaria in Africa. While 250 million contract malaria worldwide, it is Africa that bears the greatest burden. Tragically each year in Africa 850,000 people die from malaria – mainly children under 5 and pregnant women. That is one child every 45 seconds. However, malaria is preventable and treatable. Learn more about where we work and what impact we are having on the ground.
