In January I joined our friends at Rentokil Pest Control Division to launch a new partnership together to raise funds and awareness to tackle malaria.
We were thrilled when Rentokil approached us. It feels like a very natural fit to be working together. Rentokil Pest Control are just as focussed on getting rid of unwanted pests as we are – including mosquitoes carrying malaria.
I was asked to the Division’s annual dinner to help introduce Malaria No More UK and it was really nice to meet the team. They are experts in their field and have labs developing new products so I was able to happily talk vector control with the best of them!
Rentokil have already raised £7,840 by making a donation for every participant who completed their annual staff survey, and now they have set themselves a series of personal challenges.
In April Rentokil PestControl UK Product Manager Berwyn Evans will run the Virgin London Marathon in aid of Malaria No More UK – backed by the entire team. The race comes only days ahead of World Malaria Day so the timing couldn’t be better. You can read about other Malaria No More UK challenge events here.
Leading by example, the Pest Control Board have pledged to undertake a skydive after World Malaria Day to raise more funds. I did a skydive in 2010 with Sam Fox and friends from I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! I thought it was brilliant and wish them lots of luck.
So a new friendship is made and a series of events are planned. We’re looking forward to working with the Rentokil team during 2012!
