Christmas 2011 saw British Fashion Brand Jack Wills inspire their customers across the UK to make malaria no more, by buying a bracelet that has been more than simply a fashion item. The beaded bracelets are ethically handcrafted in Africa by workers at The Relate Trust, and all the profits from sales are being donated by Jack Wills to Malaria No More UK – that’s at least £2 for every bracelet sold.

Since the bracelets first went on sale in UK stores and online, they have been a big hit with Jack Wills’s typically student clientele, who are demonstrating their enthusiasm to be part of the effort to help end malaria deaths. Eight months later the initiative has already raised over £50,000.

The impact of funds raised is already being felt, particularly in Namibia where we have been able to support work helping frontline health workers as they treat communities at risk from malaria. Health workers in one of the country’s most remote and malaria prone regions, Kavango are being trained to quickly, cheaply and accurately diagnose the disease in the 800 or more suspected cases of malaria that they see each month, by using Rapid Diagnostic Tests.

Malaria No More UK Chair of Trustees, Heather Rabbatts says: “Jack Wills is a great example of a British business that has seen the challenge posed by malaria in Africa, and found a simple but effective way to involve their staff and customers in tackling the disease. We are thrilled to be working with a partner who can inspire so many young people here in the UK to take action that will help save lives from malaria.”

Jack Wills CEO and Founder, Peter Williams says: “Jack Wills is excited to be part of such a positive and proactive charity. We are inspired by the determined and adventurous spirit of Malaria No More UK, a quality that we as a brand recognise in many of our customers, and look forward to raising further funds for this worthy cause.”

In addition to continuing to sell the bracelets, which are based on an original United Against Malaria design, Jack Wills are also lending their support to our latest awareness campaign: Mozzy Air by offering four lucky participants a fantastic prize.
